Convert WebP Images to PNG: Transparency, Quality and Batch Conversion

You download a WebP image, then find that the editor or document template you need won't accept it. Converting it to PNG is a straightforward fix for that compatibility problem.

Our image converter supports PNG, JPEG and WebP output, resizing and batches of up to 20 images.

Convert a single image

  1. Select the WebP file.
  2. Choose PNG as the output format.
  3. Keep Original size unless you want to resize it.
  4. Run the conversion and check the preview.
  5. Download the file and open it in the app that needs it.

Renaming photo.webp to photo.png won't work. The converter needs to read the image and save its contents in the new format.

Check the transparent areas

PNG supports transparency, which is useful for logos, icons and cutout images. Open the result against a light and a dark background so you can spot any unwanted fill or rough edges.

Avoid JPEG if you need a transparent background. JPEG doesn't support transparency, so those areas must be filled during export.

Don't expect sharper detail from a format change

PNG won't restore detail already lost in a compressed WebP. Blurry lettering or rough edges can remain even when the new file is much larger.

If the source already works in your destination app, you may not need to convert it. For a web page, keeping the smaller WebP can be the better choice. Our image compression guide explains how to compare size and visible quality.

Resize only when you need to

Keep the aspect ratio when setting new dimensions. Enlarging a small image won't recreate missing detail. Shrinking a large one can be useful when the final display is much smaller.

Compare the result at the size people will actually see. A preview zoomed far beyond its normal display size can make a perfectly usable image look worse than it will on the page.

Review batch results individually

You can select up to 20 files with shared output settings. Check the results before downloading, especially if the batch mixes photographs and transparent assets.

This converter exports still images. Animated WebP or GIF files can lose their motion, SVG files become raster images, and source metadata may be removed. Keep the originals if those details matter.

Conversion runs in the browser. Large batches can take time and use device memory; if one file fails, try it separately and confirm that your browser can open the original.
